Belgium – Vynova Group’s parent company, International Chemical Investors Group is acquiring the European Advanced Organics business of US specialty chemicals company Valtris Specialty Chemicals. The acquisition includes production units in Tessenderlo (Belgium) and Maastricht (Netherlands) and the portfolio of benzyl chloride and derivatives produced at these sites.
The Advanced Organics business becomes part of Vynova Group, producer of PVC, among other products. These activities will continue under the name Vynova Advanced Organics. The acquired division covers a broad range of chlorinated toluenes and derivatives. The acquired Advanced Organics division includes two production units for benzyl chloride and derivatives in Tessenderlo (Belgium), employing about 90 people. Another production plant, with about 30 employees, is located in Maastricht (Netherlands) and produces benzyl alcohol. Valtris’ North American production of benzyl chloride at its Delaware River facility is not part of the acquisition and remains part of Valtris Specialty Chemicals.
Vynova Group already has a strong presence in Tessenderlo, where Vynova Belgium is located, the group’s largest production site and headquarters. Vynova Belgium and the Advanced Organics production units in Tessenderlo and Maastricht previously belonged to the same owner until 2015.
As a result, the Advanced Organics plants in Tessenderlo are closely related to those of Vynova Belgium. They are located on the same site and the Advanced Organics plants use chlorine produced in Vynova Belgium’s electrolysis unit as a key feedstock for the production of benzyl chloride and derivatives.
