The Netherlands – The Dutch government is splitting the IJmuiden Ver Gamma and Nederwiek I lots into 4 lots of 1 gigawatt (GW) of wind energy. Four smaller lots were chosen to reduce the financial risks for wind farm developers applying for permits for them.
In the last tenders issued, it appeared that companies find the financial risk of the large lots too great. Eneco and Equinor, for example, withdrew from the tender for the IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Beta concessions just this year. The companies indicated that the current approach to tendering was not โfuture-proof. According to the companies, this is mainly because there is too much focus on the financial aspect of the project proposals. This would almost turn the tender into an auction. In order to limit the financial risks, the government is now dividing up the tender lots.
Lot Gamma-A in wind energy area IJmuiden Ver starts about 53 km off the west coast of the Netherlands. Lot Gamma-B is about 61 km off the coast. The total area of the 4 plots (Alpha, Beta and Gamma-A and B) in wind energy area IJmuiden Ver is about 650 square kilometers. Together, these 4 lots account for about 6 GW of installed offshore wind power capacity.
