Belgium – EcoVadis, WindEurope, and five prominent wind energy industry organizations – ENGIE, Hitachi Energy, Siemens Gamesa, Statkraft, and Vestas – have joined forces to launch the ‘Wind Energy Initiative.’

The primary goal of the Wind Energy Initiative is to accelerate the uptake of sustainable practices within the wind energy sector. By prioritizing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, the initiative seeks to enhance the industry’s contribution to combating climate change, promote fair treatment within the supply chain, and conserve biodiversity. Through collaborative efforts, the initiative aims to set new standards for ethical and environmentally responsible business practices.

To achieve its goals, the Wind Energy Initiative will implement the EcoVadis sustainability ratings methodology as a voluntary standard for assessing suppliers. This robust framework will enable members to evaluate their suppliers’ ESG performance comprehensively, driving improvements and fostering transparency throughout the supply chain. By leveraging technology and data-driven insights, the initiative aims to drive meaningful change and promote sustainable development.

Positive change

The Wind Energy Initiative has the potential to drive significant positive change within the wind energy industry and beyond. By aligning their efforts and committing to shared sustainability goals, the initiative’s members can enhance their collective impact on climate change mitigation, social responsibility, and biodiversity conservation. Furthermore, by setting a precedent for collaboration and transparency, the initiative can inspire other sectors to adopt similar initiatives, accelerating the transition to a more sustainable future.
