United Kingdom – Vattenfall, one of Europe’s major electricity and heat producers, and Vestas, a global leader in wind turbine manufacturing, have inked strategic agreements.

The cornerstone of these agreements is the Preferred Supplier Agreement (PSA) for the Norfolk Vanguard West project, boasting a formidable 1,380 MW capacity. This project will showcase 92 of Vestas’ V236-15 MW offshore wind turbines, emphasizing a commitment to cutting-edge technology in the offshore wind sector.

Moreover, Vattenfall and Vestas have solidified their collaboration through exclusivity agreements for two additional projects – Norfolk Vanguard East and Norfolk Boreas, boasting a combined installed capacity of 2,760 MW. These ventures envisage the potential deployment of up to 184 V236-15 MW turbines, further underlining the ambition to create one of the largest offshore wind zones globally.

Beyond the installation phase, Vestas commits to long-term Operations and Maintenance (O&M) service contracts for these projects.

Powering homes

The collective capacity of these projects is poised to power over 4 million UK homes, contributing significantly to the nation’s renewable energy goals. The agreements underscore the potential for offshore wind to be a linchpin in the UK’s energy transition strategy, offering a clean and sustainable alternative to traditional power sources.

As these agreements progress towards potential orders, both Vattenfall and Vestas are optimistic about the pivotal role their collaboration will play in steering the offshore wind industry towards greater heights.
