Finland – Neste has completed its comprehensive study and is set to transform its crude oil refinery in Porvoo, Finland, into a cutting-edge hub for renewable and circular solutions.

The strategic roadmap, slated for completion in the mid-2030s, involves multiple phased investments over the next decade, totaling an estimated 2.5 billion euros (BEUR).

Neste envisions the long-term capacity of the Porvoo refinery, post-transformation, to reach approximately 3 million tons of renewable and circular products. These include renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel, and feedstock for the polymers and chemicals industry, marking a substantial shift towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly product portfolio.

Green technologies

The planned transformation reflects Neste’s commitment to embracing green technologies and circular economy principles. The conversion process will leverage Neste’s decades-long refining experience, specialized proficiency in processing challenging raw materials, and the expertise of its skilled workforce. This holistic approach is expected to position the Porvoo refinery as a frontrunner in sustainable refining practices.

The Porvoo refinery’s evolution will play a vital role in solidifying Neste’s position as a 100% renewable and circular solutions provider, addressing the evolving needs of its customers.
