Germany – Wpd has begun construction of the Gennaker offshore wind farm off the Baltic Sea coast with the conditional order of 103 Siemens Gamesa offshore wind turbines with up to 9 MW capacity each and the beginning of the main soil investigation.
The tendering process for the other primary components and installation vessels is ongoing at the same time.
Energy transition boost
Gennaker will be the most powerful offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea to date with a total capacity of 927 MW. The project’s full capacity will be installed by the end of 2026, per the schedule. Thus, the project will significantly advance the ambitious goals and plans of the German government for accelerating the energy transition.
The rotor diameter of the Siemens Gamesa wind turbines will be 167 meters. Each machine’s capacity can increase from its nameplate capacity of 8.6 MW to up to 9 MW when the PowerBoost option is activated. Additionally, a 20-year Service agreement has been conditionally awarded to Siemens Gamesa.
