Mainstream and Aker Offshore Wind create offshore wind player

Norway – The merger of Mainstream Renewable Power and Aker Offshore Wind will result in a stronger renewable energy company with a portfolio of 27 GW of solar, onshore wind, bottom-fixed, and floating offshore wind projects.

Aker Horizons will own roughly 58.6% of Mainstream after the transaction is completed.

New opportunities

Since many nations have set lofty goals to produce gigawatts of wind energy, and since about 70 to 80 percent of offshore wind resources are found in water depths only suitable for floating foundations, the floating wind market is expected to expand quickly in the coming years.

While pursuing opportunities in new markets, Mainstream’s offshore business will continue to develop project opportunities for fixed and floating wind in markets like Norway, Sweden, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Ireland, the UK, and the US.
