Germany – Siemens Energy has now been contracted by Amprion Offshore GmbH to provide the converter platforms for the offshore grid connection systems DolWin4 and BorWin4.
Up to 1.8 GW of power from several wind farms in the German North Sea will be efficiently transported to land by DolWin4 and BorWin4. The range of Siemens Energy’s supply consists of two associated stations on land and two converter platforms at sea.
Through the platforms, alternating current generated by wind turbines is changed into direct current. The high-voltage direct current transmission cable or transport receives the direct current after that. The electricity is then transformed back into alternating current at a second converter station on land.
Consortium partner
Siemens Energy will produce all high-voltage components for the two connection systems in Europe, including transformers, switchgear, and converter technology. The associated platforms’ design, construction, and offshore installation are the responsibility of the consortium partner from Spain, Dragados Offshore S.A., a division of the VINCI Group. Construction will take place at the Spanish yard in Cádiz.
The two connections will be put in place simultaneously and are expected to start working in 2028.
