The Netherlands – Air Liquide and Vattenfall have signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 115 MW, or about 500 GWh per year, of renewable electricity from Hollandse Kust Zuid, an offshore wind farm in the Netherlands.
A 100 GWh-PPA with Air Liquide was announced in March 2021 as an addition to the existing long-term relationship. Air Liquide will be able to supply its existing industrial and medical gas production assets in the Netherlands and the Benelux region with renewable energy under a 15-year PPA that will begin in 2025.
Hollandse Kust Zuid
No public funds were used to build Hollandse Kust Zuid, the largest offshore wind farm in the world. Financial stability for investors and access to renewable energy are two advantages of long-term contracts like the PPAs signed with Air Liquide.
About 18-35 kilometers off the coast of the Netherlands, between The Hague and Zandvoort, is Hollandse Kust Zuid. One hundred and forty-four turbines with a total power capacity of 1,500 megawatts will be installed in the offshore wind farm in 2023. It is owned by three major corporations: Vattenfall, BASF, and Allianz.
