Norway – Hywind Tampen, a 95-MW floating wind power project off the coast of Norway, has received its first turbines.
This will be the world’s largest floating offshore wind power plant once it is fully operational. The Snorre and Gullfaks offshore field operations in the Norwegian North Sea will be supplied with electricity by Hywind Tampen.
The project includes 11 SG 8.0-167 DD turbines with an 88 MW capacity. Siemens Gamesa and its customer Equinor have worked together to open up new offshore areas and develop this cutting-edge power generation solution, according to the company.
Electricity demand
The wind farm’s 95 MW capacity is expected to meet about 35% of the five Snorre A and B, and Gullfaks A, B, and C platforms’ annual electricity demand.
Hywind Tampen will serve as a test bed for the advancement of floating wind technology, including the use of new and larger turbines, installation methods, simplified moorings, concrete substructures, and integration of gas and wind power generation systems.
