Spain – Greenalia has completed a geophysical survey in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, where the PE Gofio 50 MW floating offshore wind project in the Canary Islands will be built.
The main goal of this action is to gain a better understanding of the seabed conditions where this first floating offshore wind farm will be built. As a result, you will be able to make more precise progress in the design of floating structures and project certification.
The findings of this campaign have confirmed the findings of the Environmental Impact Study (EIA) completed in 2020, as well as allowing for a better understanding of the seabed’s biodiversity. These works demonstrate the project’s environmental compatibility and potential for reduced environmental impact.
Seabed survey
The study took two months to complete, during which time a precise bathymetric and morphological survey of the seabed was carried out, allowing for more in-depth analysis of benthic communities and underwater archaeology. It has also had the assistance of an underwater ROV, as well as the characterization of marine substrates using a Geopulse-type underwater research system.
Greenalia received this award as part of a collaboration agreement with the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster that was signed last year (of which ECOS is a partner). An agreement to share experience and knowledge in the field of offshore wind energy, particularly floating wind energy.
