Norway – The first of 11 turbines destined for Equinor’s Hywind Tampen floating wind project in the Norwegian North Sea is now standing tall, ahead of installation.
Ole Arild Larsen, Equinor’s operations manager for Hywind Tampen, emphasized the assembly of the first unit in Gulen, Norway.
Hywind Tampen is an 88 MW floating wind power project in the Norwegian North Sea that will provide electricity for the Snorre and Gullfaks offshore field operations. It will be the first floating wind farm in the world to provide power to offshore oil and gas platforms.
Test bed
Eleven wind turbines will be installed on the floating wind farm. The wind farm will have a total capacity of 88 MW and is expected to meet about 35% of the annual electricity demand of the five Snorre A and B platforms, as well as the Gullfaks A, B, and C platforms.
Hywind Tampen will serve as a test bed for the development of floating wind, with new and larger turbines, installation methods, simplified moorings, concrete substructures, and integration of gas and wind power generation systems all being investigated.
