Denmark – RWE has chosen the Port of Thorsminde as the location for its Thor Offshore Wind Farm’s operation and maintenance.
Thor will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm to date, with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MW). The wind farm will be built 22 kilometers off the Danish west coast, near the port of Thorsminde. As a result, the Danish port offers both the shortest sea and air routes to the Thor Offshore Wind Farm. Thor will be able to produce enough green electricity to power over one million Danish households once it is fully operational, which is expected to be no later than 2027.
Wind farm support
From 2026 onwards, the new service station is expected to be fully operational. RWE intends to use this port to support its wind farm for at least the next 30 years.
RWE also wants to use a portion of the port during the wind farm’s construction. The project’s initial survey work is expected to be carried out from the port, with smaller components being shipped out and construction crews being transported to their offshore worksite. As a result, RWE intends to set up base in Thorsminde by the spring of next year.
