Denmark/Taiwan – The Greater Changhua 1 & 2a Offshore Wind Farm has successfully delivered its first power, according to Danish Ørsted.
Greater Changhua 1 & 2a is the largest offshore wind project in Taiwan and Ørsted’s first large-scale offshore wind farm in the Asia-Pacific region, so this is a significant achievement for the company and the industry.
Greater Changhua 1 & 2a, located 35-60 kilometres off Taiwan’s west coast, has a total capacity of 900 MW, making it Taiwan’s largest and first far-shore wind farm. Once completed, the wind farm will play an important role in Taiwan’s rapid deployment of renewable energy, providing the green energy that export industries and Taiwan require to reach its net-zero goal.
Power delivery
With the installation and energization of the first batch of offshore wind turbines, the first power was delivered on time. Array cables, offshore substations, and export cables were used to transport the electricity to rsted’s onshore substations. Taipower’s substation fed the renewable energy into the national grid. At Changhua 1 & 2a, a total of 111 Siemens Gamesa 8.0-167 DD wind turbines will be installed, producing enough electricity to power a million Taiwanese households.
The 900 MW offshore wind project is still moving forward at full speed. Meanwhile, Ørsted’s operations and maintenance (O&M) team is preparing to take over and ensure the wind farm’s optimal performance over its more than 25-year lifespan, which will provide stable and clean energy.
