The Netherlands – TenneT has awarded Boskalis, in collaboration with Orient Cables (NBO), the Hollandse Kust West Beta export cable contract.
The contract includes the installation of two 65-kilometre-long export cables that will connect the planned Hollandse Kust West Beta 700 MW offshore wind farm to TenneT’s onshore Dutch grid. Furthermore, Boskalis will lay a 9-kilometre-long 66kV interconnector cable between the offshore substations Hollandse Kust West Alpha and Hollandse Kust West Beta.
Sizable contract
Boskalis will carry out this contract in collaboration with NBO, which will design and supply the high-voltage cable system. The two 220kV AC cable circuits will arrive at Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands, near the existing onshore high voltage substation. The contract value for Boskalis is thought to be ‘sizable.’
Boskalis will provide an integrated solution of in-house services for this project, including the removal of unexploded ordnance from the seabed, geotechnical and geophysical surveys, beach and seabed preparation works, and cable laying and burial. The Hollandse Kust West Beta offshore wind farm is scheduled to begin operations in 2025.
Boskalis is advancing the energy transition by making renewable energy available in the Netherlands through this project and its client TenneT. The Hollandse Kust (West Beta) project is part of the Dutch national roadmap to reduce CO2 emissions by 49 percent by 2030.
