United Kingdom – With up to 72 wind turbines located 15 kilometers off the coast of Angus, Inch Cape Offshore Limited has chosen Montrose Port as the location for its future operations and maintenance base.

Initial investment of £5.2 million and more than 50 long-term skilled jobs will be created as a result of the wind farm, owned by Red Rock Power and ESB. It has applied to the UK Government for a long-term energy contract in its latest “Contracts for Difference” allocation round, and the results are expected this summer.

Port’s infrastructure

Starting in 2023, construction of offices and warehouses at the port’s South Quay will be the first step in upgrading the port’s infrastructure. In addition to dockside cranes and a communications mast, an exclusive pontoon for crew transfer vessels traveling to and from the Inch Cape site will be built. Additionally, the most recent advances in vessel fueling technology are being considered as an additional investment.

A completion date of early 2025 is expected to coincide with the commissioning of the first offshore wind turbines. Up to 56 direct, long-term full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs, including turbine technicians, asset managers, and office staff, will be supported once the Montrose base is fully operational.
