South Korea – Wärtsilä will supply seven thrusters for a new Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) being built for Eneti at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine yard in South Korea.
The Wärtsilä thrusters will enable optimal propulsion performance for the vessel by providing outstanding thrust, robust station-keeping capability, and efficient transit operation. There is the possibility of a second vessel.
The next-generation vessel will have advanced lifting capabilities and high energy efficiency, thanks to a Gusto 16000X design. Wärtsilä’s advanced lightweight thruster configuration meets the performance requirements of the design parameters.
Wärtsilä’s proven retraction system, combined with an energy-efficient 8-degree tilt, are critical factors in the thrusters’ ability to provide effective and reliable station-keeping performance. The tilt provides up to 23% more effective thrust than non-tilted thrusters while lowering power requirements and fuel consumption. The retractable thrusters feature a combined electric steering and retraction system that saves space and weight while also having fewer components for greater reliability.
Six Wärtsilä WST-32 thrusters with modern electric steering systems for lower lifecycle costs, high reliability, and lower energy consumption are included in the scope, as is one Wärtsilä WTT-36 thruster. All seven are scheduled for delivery to the yard in the first quarter of 2023 and comply with applicable environmental regulations by using Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EAL). The vessel is scheduled to be delivered to the owner in late 2024.
This is the fourth WTIV contract with Wärtsilä thrusters signed in 2021, highlighting Wärtsilä’s leadership in this field.
