Denmark – Vattenfall and its suppliers will begin the final phase of development of Vester Syd and Nord offshore wind farms with a final investment decision of €769 million.
According to Vattenfall, a total of 344 MW of fossil-free electricity capacity will be added to Denmark’s energy system by Vesterhav Syd and Nord by 2023.
The Vesterhav projects are Vattenfall’s third major project in Denmark in as many months, following the recent openings of Kriegers Flak and Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farms. By the end of 2023 at the earliest, the wind farms will be able to supply Denmark’s consumers and businesses with fossil-free electricity.
Boost for Denmark’s green transition
Vesterhav Syd and Nord will make a significant contribution to Denmark’s green transition in the coming years with their combined 344 MW capacity, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of over 350,000 Danish households.
For the first time, Vester Syd and Nord will join Vattenfall’s growing North Sea offshore wind farm cluster. As a result, Vattenfall plans to establish a new service facility in the Port of Hvide Sande, which will serve both Vester Syd and Nord and Horns Rev 3 on the west coast of Denmark.
