Spain – With two new solar projects in Spain, RWE is making significant progress in developing its solar business in Europe.
Casa Valdes and Puerta del Sol are solar farms in the province of Guadalajara, near to Madrid. Both solar farms will have 44 megawatts (MWac) of capacity. Early construction work has already begun, and final commissioning is scheduled for summer 2022.
RWE will deploy novel, bifacial high-performance modules for both solar projects. The benefit is that the bifacial cells are placed in a double-sided glass-module, allowing solar energy to be absorbed from both sides of the module (front and rear).
Renewables footprint
RWE has extensive expertise in Spain, where it already runs onshore wind farms with a combined capacity of more than 440 MW, as well as modest hydropower units. The company is also participating in a photovoltaic facility in the Spanish province of Toledo, as well as the Andasol 3 solar thermal power station. Furthermore, RWE’s Alarcos ground-mounted solar farm began operations last year. This 45 MWac solar farm is located in the Autonomous Community Castilla-La Mancha, south of the city of Ciudad Real.
RWE has an operational renewables portfolio with more than 9 gigatonnes (GW) of installed capacity and is currently building photovoltaic facilities with a total capacity of 1.2 GW around the world. In terms of future solar investments, RWE is actively developing projects with a total capacity of more than 7.6 GW in many European and North American nations.
