United Kingdom – The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Coalition for Action, comprised of more than 130 renewable energy leaders, has issued a call to action, urging all governments at the national, regional, and local levels to ensure that workers in the energy transition have access to good-paying jobs.
To keep global warming to 1.5°C by 2050, the energy industry must be completely decarbonized. As a result, the shift to renewable energy must be accelerated. The energy transition must, however, proceed in a just and inclusive manner while leaving no one behind if we are to construct a climate-resilient future.
A worldwide energy shift based on renewable energy has been shown to create wide-ranging socio-economic advantages, including jobs, as countries gather in Glasgow for the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) to realign strategy and renew objectives.
According to a new IRENA report, the renewable energy sector will provide jobs for 12 million people by 2020, an increase of 7.3 million over the previous year. With a gender balance of 32% women employed in the renewable energy industry compared to 22% in the fossil fuels industry, renewable energy jobs are more inclusive.
