United StatesMEGlobal Americas has signed a deal with Calpine Energy Solutions to acquire renewable energy to meet 100% of MEGlobal’s anticipated power demands at its Oyster Creek, TX, site beginning in 2023.

MEGlobal will acquire more than 1.5 million MWh of renewable energy throughout the course of the five-year deal, resulting in the displacement of more than 600,000 MT of CO2. That equates to taking more than 156,000 cars off the road for a year or diverting at least 28 million bags of trash from a landfill. When compared to traditional carbon offsets, the quantity of CO2e replaced by this purchase is equivalent to the amount of carbon sequestered by more than 1.8 million acres of forest in a year.

According to Site Leader Scott Daigle, the MEGlobal Oyster Creek Site began operations in 2019 and was developed with energy efficiency in mind. Adding renewable energy to the site’s infrastructure is another step forward. MEGlobal, according to Daigle, will begin shifting to renewable energy in 2022.
