Germany – Vestas has received a firm order from Parkwind for the 257 MW Arcadis Ost 1 offshore wind project, to supply 27 V174-9.5 MW turbines 19 km north east off the coast of Rugen Island in the German Baltic Sea.
The V174-9.5 MW turbines will be placed utilizing a new floating installation method, an industry first, rather to the traditional jack-up vessel method. A dual crane vessel will be employed in partnership with Parkwind and the vessel operator, Heerema Marine Contractors, to enable the floating installation process, which will involve dynamic lifting and installation of all turbine components. This unique installation method eliminates issues with seabed and soil conditions by eliminating contact with the seabed entirely. This decreases project risk by allowing for faster installation time, which contributes to lowering the project’s levelized cost of energy.
Vestas will additionally service Arcadis Ost 1 with a 15-year service contract once it is installed. Starting in the third quarter of 2022, turbine components will be delivered to the Port of Roenne on the Danish island of Bornholm. Offshore installation is projected to begin by the end of 2022, with Arcadis Ost 1 expected to be fully operational in 2023.
