United Kingdom – Global Energy Group (GEG) has joined the Salamander floating wind project to help the design, development and execution planning for the project.
The Salamander project is being developed by Simply Blue Energy in partnership with Subsea 7, off the North East coast of Scotland. The project’s goal is to serve as a “stepping stone” between present demonstrator projects and future commercial projects leased through the ScotWind process. The project’s goal is to provide a solid pipeline for the Scottish supply chain and to demonstrate the ability to achieve a significant amount of local content, paving the way for securing additional local content in later ScotWind commercial scale developments. Ocergy, who is evaluating floating foundation concept, was chosen as the project’s core concept because of its capacity to maximize Scottish local content.
Maximizing floating platform
Salamander and GEG intend to work side-by-side to ensure that the project is developed in a way to maximize the floating platform content that can be placed within the Scottish supply chain. This is perfectly in line with the project’s ambition to provide a “stepping stone” effect to support the local supply chain for future commercial projects, as well as the Scottish Government’s ambitions for floating wind and the Scottish supply chain, as outlined in the Offshore Wind Policy Statement.
