Luxcara and GE Renewable Energy have announced a deal to supply 753 MW of onshore wind power to the Önusberget Wind Farm in northern Sweden.

GE Renewable Energy will supply 137 of its 5.5 MW Cypress turbines, a powerful turbine with a 158-meter rotor, best suited to the wind and environment of the project site. The turbine blades will be fitted with an advanced ice reduction method to ensure reliable availability and decreased downtime. The parties have settled to a 25-year full turbine maintenance and service contract.

Largest contract

The plant will be the largest single onshore wind farm in Europe and GE’s largest onshore wind farm contract outside the US. Luxcara has already begun infrastructure work, and GE will start building turbines as early as July of this year.

The plant, with its Kallamossen and Djupdal sub-parks, will generate enough electricity to supply more than 200,000 Swedish households each year and will save close to 1,000,000 tons of CO2 over its lifespan.
