The Netherlands – An agreement has been reached between Höegh LNG and terminal operator VTTI to explore the potential for the establishment of an energy terminal in Zeeland.
Situated near the port of Vlissingen, the Zeeland Energy Terminal will be installed atop a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU). Höegh is a significant participant in this industry.
The partners anticipate being able to utilize the terminal by the latter part of 2027. The annual capacity of the Zeeland Energy Terminal will be 7.5 billion cubic meters of gas. That amounts to almost 25% of the Netherlands’ yearly gas usage. It is intended to be appropriate for hydrogen imports as well. Using an FSRU has the environmental benefit of having less of an impact than building on land. There is less time spent building.
National Coordination Scheme
The parties have established a joint venture with a 50 percent participation for the development of the terminal.
Through an initiative known as the National Coordination Scheme, the project is being developed. This indicates that the decision-making process is coordinated by the Dutch government. This is the situation with energy projects like this one that are significant to the country. The first quarter of 2024 will see the consultation phase. Additionally, the parties are in conversation with interested market participants. In the first half of 2024, the project team will launch a bidding process for the regasification capacity.
