United Kingdom – GE Renewable Energy has announced that it is preparing to open a new blade production center in Teesside, North East England.
LM Wind Power intends to set up and run this facility, committed to the construction of its 107-meter-long offshore wind turbine blades, the main component of GE’s Haliade-X, the most powerful offshore wind turbine in operation today. Terms of construction and funding of the new plant are at an advanced level of discussion with the parties involved.
Hundreds of jobs
GE Renewable Energy predicts that this new project, which is expected to open and start production in 2023, will provide up to 750 direct renewable energy jobs and up to 1,500 indirect jobs in the region to sustain the full supply chain required to run this facility. This declaration and pledge help the UK Government’s strategy to build employment, infrastructure and supply chains to meet its goal of commissioning 40 GW of offshore wind power by 2030 and become a world leader in renewable energy.
Ideal location
Teesside has just been listed as one of the newest freeports in the United Kingdom as part of that initiative. GE Renewable Energy’s proposed blade production facility will be situated on Teesworks, a perfect site to support the enormous offshore wind capacity of the North Sea.
