The Netherlands – Air Products’ green hydrogen project at the Port of Rotterdam has received approval from the European Commission to qualify for a grant under the fourth Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) Hydrogen (Hy2Move) program.

Air Products and Gunvor Petroleum Rotterdam announced in mid-2022 that they would jointly develop an import terminal for ammonia – and a facility to convert it back into hydrogen. Air Products indicated then that the project aimed to be recognized as an IPCEI project to secure financing. With EC approval, the project moves a big step closer. In 2022, the companies indicated that the import terminal was expected to be able to deliver the first (green) hydrogen starting in 2026.

According to the IPCEI program Hy2Move, member states are contributing a total of €1.4 billion to the various projects. From industry, an investment of €3.3 billion is expected. A total of 11 companies in 13 different projects are eligible for a grant.

Hy2Move

The Hy2Move program focuses on much of the entire hydrogen value chain such as the development of fuel technology, hydrogen storage solutions for mobility and transportation applications.
