United Kingdom – The Kraft Heinz Company has unveiled plans, in collaboration with Carlton Power, for a renewable green hydrogen plant at the Kitt Green manufacturing facility in Wigan, Greater Manchester.
This initiative aligns with Kraft Heinz’s global commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, with a 50% reduction by 2030. Kraft Heinz’s Kitt Green, a major food processing hub, is set to house a 20MW hydrogen plantā€”the first of its kind for Kraft Heinz globally. The project aims to meet over 50% of the plant’s annual natural gas demand, resulting in a substantial carbon emissions reduction of 16,000 tons per year. This venture aligns with Kraft Heinz’s overarching sustainability goals and showcases its dedication to environmentally conscious manufacturing practices.
Electrolysis technology
The proposed hydrogen plant will deploy electrolysis technology, harnessing renewable energy from wind and solar sources. With an anticipated annual output of 20MW, the electrolyzer will produce green hydrogen, providing a clean energy alternative for the Kitt Green facility.
Upon successful implementation, the Kitt Green hydrogen plant is poised to become a flagship model for sustainability in the food processing industry.
