Germany/United States – Uniper and First Ammonia have unveiled their partnership to deliver green ammonia, at the US-German Hydrogen Conference in Berlin.
Each 100MW module engaged in this project will have the capacity to produce up to 100,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia. The environmental impact of this endeavor is equivalent to averting a substantial 180,000 to 240,000 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions annually compared to the production of conventional grey ammonia.
Power to Ammonia
The heart of this initiative lies in the innovative Power to Ammonia concept. This novel approach combines the use of high-temperature solid oxide electrolyzer cells (SOEC) with the exothermic ammonia synthesis process. This integration not only ensures efficient and sustainable ammonia production but also minimizes the carbon footprint, a crucial step in achieving a more environmentally conscious future.
The partnership between Uniper and First Ammonia marks a turning point in the pursuit of sustainable energy solutions. Green ammonia is not a distant dream; it’s a reality, and it has the potential to redefine entire industries while contributing significantly to a greener, more sustainable future.
