Germany – Thyssengas, the transmission system operator, and Currenta, the chemical park operator, have joined forces to create a dynamic network of hydrogen supply.
With a shared vision, they aim to connect the three Chempark locations in Leverkusen, Dormagen, and Krefeld-Uerdingen to a hydrogen network by 2030, setting in motion a transformative journey toward cleaner energy and enhanced chemistry.
Key to this endeavor is the conversion of an existing Thyssengas natural gas pipeline into a hydrogen transport system for the locations in Dormagen and Leverkusen. Simultaneously, plans are underway to construct a new hydrogen pipeline connecting Duisburg and Krefeld, culminating in a strategic connection to Krefeld-Uerdingen.
In the year 2030, these hydrogen arteries will transport the much-needed hydrogen to the chemical parks, facilitated by the planned border crossing points in Zevenaar and Vlieghuis with the Netherlands. Additionally, the network will intersect with the north-south corridor of the transmission system operators Gasunie and Thyssengas, forming a comprehensive hydrogen supply chain between Wilhelmshaven and Cologne.
Sustainable chemical park
This partnership, driven by Thyssengas and Currenta, stands as a beacon of sustainable progress in the world of energy and industry. The shift to hydrogen promises a cleaner, more efficient future for the Chempark locations and the entire region, heralding the dawn of a hydrogen economy with a commitment to transforming the industrial landscape for good.
