Germany/Norway – Hy2gen has joined forces with offshore wind power expert Deep Wind Offshore. This strategic partnership aims to tackle one of the main challenges hindering offshore wind development – access and capacity in the power grid.

The primary goal of this collaboration is to pioneer a green energy revolution by effectively combining offshore wind and hydrogen production. The partnership sets its sights on offering green energy solutions to various end-users in emerging markets, especially those that cannot be electrified directly but can transition from fossil fuels to renewable hydrogen.

Power grid

One of the inherent challenges in offshore wind development is the limitations imposed by the power grid. The combination of offshore wind and hydrogen addresses this challenge by allowing the power generated from offshore wind to be directly utilized in the production of green energy carriers.

Reduction in emissions

With Norway aspiring to award 30 GW of offshore wind by 2040, the potential impact of this collaboration is far-reaching. If 16 GW of this capacity is converted to ammonia, produced from renewable hydrogen, it could eliminate 100 percent of Norway’s total maritime emissions, a staggering 10 million tons of CO2 annually. The collaboration not only targets a reduction in emissions but also seeks to offer renewable ammonia as a zero-emissions fuel for shipping. Beyond domestic aspirations, the collaboration between Hy2gen and Deep Wind Offshore aims to position Norway as a global leader in the renewable energy market.
