The Netherlands – thyssenkrupp Uhde is set to lend its expertise to the Offset consortium led by SwitcH2 B.V., a Netherlands-based project developer.
The consortium, comprising partners BW Offshore Norway AS (BWO), Marin, TU Delft, and Strohm, is on a mission to develop an industrial scale floating green hydrogen and ammonia project using a floating production and offloading vessel (FPSO). This ambitious collaboration seeks to revolutionize clean offshore ammonia manufacturing and advance sustainable practices in the energy sector.

Green ammonia technology is one such innovation that thyssenkrupp Uhde has developed, aligning with its commitment to combat climate change.
DNV AiP
In March 2023, SwitcH2 B.V. achieved a crucial milestone when it received Approval in Principle from DNV for its FPSO design principles that enable the production of ammonia solely from renewable energy sources. As part of this process, BWO, another member of the consortium, played a key role in developing the topside arrangement, hull, and mooring system design for the FPSO. thyssenkrupp Uhde’s involvement was in the form of a Technical Concept Study for the ammonia plant, which harnessed thyssenkrupp’s uhde ammonia synthesis technologies.
Dutch government support
The ambitious project consortium received a generous grant of Euro 3 million in April 2023 from the Dutch government in support of project Offset. This financial backing provides the consortium with the necessary resources to advance its plans to develop a floating hydrogen and/or ammonia production and storage facility, which will be connected to an adjacent wind farm by 2027.
