United States/United Kingdom – A letter of intent to work together has been signed by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), two eminent professional societies committed to advancing the application of chemical engineering knowledge internationally.

The collaboration will strengthen the professional societies’ shared desire to assist business in using hydrogen as a form of energy for industrial and commercial purposes, which will be a crucial step on the path to having net zero emissions of greenhouse gases.

Billy B. Bardin, Dow’s global climate transition director and AIChE’s 2023 president, and Trish Kerin, the director of the IChemE Safety Center, signed the letter of intent while in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, for the 2023 World Hydrogen Summit and Exhibition.

Initiatives

In accordance with the agreement, AIChE and IChemE will work together on a number of roadmapping initiatives and will enlist the assistance of knowledgeable stakeholders, including manufacturers, academic and research institutions, technology and engineering suppliers, governmental organizations, transportation specialists, and hydrogen end users.

Hydrogen

For industry and transportation in the global transition to net zero greenhouse gas emissions, hydrogen is a promising, clean energy source. To develop affordable, secure, and sustainable methods of producing, distributing, storing, and using hydrogen as well as to assist industry and consumers in making the transition safely and painlessly to a future where hydrogen is a commonly-used resource, it will be necessary for contributions from engineers and scientists across disciplines as well as from government organizations.
