Germany/Denmark – Germany and Denmark have decided to work together to accelerate the deployment of green hydrogen transmission infrastructure between western Denmark and northern Germany beginning in 2028.
Robert Habeck, Germany’s economics and climate minister, and Lars Aagaard, Denmark’s equivalent, signed a mutual declaration of intent to renew and strengthen bilateral cooperation on green hydrogen.
Berlin and Copenhagen decided to work together to help potential hydrogen infrastructure operators and customers design and build hydrogen infrastructure projects.
Notwithstanding the countries’ ambiguity over the pipeline’s intended capacity, Habeck stated that he expected the pipeline to produce large volumes for German industry.
Future hydrogen
Both countries have prioritised assisting future hydrogen infrastructure operators with project design and implementation. The hydrogen pipeline is one of several German-Danish energy projects that have gained traction since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year, which caused havoc in European energy markets.
