United Kingdom – The Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub would be a green hydrogen manufacturing and vehicle refueling facility that would be powered by a specially designed solar farm, according to a planning proposal made by bp Aberdeen Hydrogen Energy Limited, a joint venture between bp and Aberdeen City Council.

The proposed solar farm and hydrogen factory would be located on separate properties and connected by an underground solar grid. The proposed solar farm would be constructed on the former Ness landfill site, while the hydrogen production facility has been allocated industrial land near Hareness Road in Aberdeen.

Production start in 2024

The project’s first phase, for which a planning application has been submitted, is intended to produce enough clean hydrogen daily to power 25 buses as well as a variety of other public and private vehicles.

The planning application’s decision is anticipated in the summer of 2023. By the end of 2024, the facility is expected to start manufacturing hydrogen under the existing project plan.
