The Netherlands – Three initiatives in Rotterdam are getting grants from the state through the so-called IPCEI scheme to promote the production of green hydrogen.
There are several hundred million euros at stake overall. On Maasvlakte 2, the Port of Rotterdam Authority has created a unique location for this new sector. Here will be the electrolysers that use green energy (offshore wind) to create green hydrogen.
Several projects
These are Air Liquide, bp and HyCC’s H2-Fifty plant, and Shell’s Holland Hydrogen 1 plant. Each of the plants can produce 200 to 250 MW. The biggest plant that is currently running in Europe is 20 MW.
Seven green hydrogen production projects in the Netherlands will receive subsidies, according to the central government. In Rotterdam, there are three of these. The remaining four are in Groningen, Zeeland, and Amsterdam/North Sea Canal.
