Germany – EWE intends to construct a massive hydrogen production plant near the northern German city of Emden.

The facility would use wind and solar energy from both land and sea, and it will have a 320 megawatt electrolysis installation. 15 kilometers west of Delfzijl, on the Ems, is where you’ll find Emden. The use of hydrogen in industrial operations and for transportation is intended.

The power plant-scale hydrogen production facility’s construction might start as early as 2023, and green hydrogen production could start as early as 2026. The European Commission must approve the project’s financing before it may be implemented. The total price tag for the hydrogen project is close to $500 million.

Hydrogen integration

EWE plans to construct the facility in Borssumer Hammrich, which is close to significant high-voltage lines and a TenneT substation that manages transmission systems. Emden is now among the greatest places for seamlessly integrating sustainable hydrogen generation into the current energy grid, according to extensive location analyses.
