Indonesia – PT Pertamina (Persero) in Indonesia and Aramco, one of the top worldwide integrated energy and chemicals companies, are looking into prospects for collaboration throughout the hydrogen and ammonia value chain.
The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing future cooperation throughout this crucial corridor of the energy transition during a ceremony held in conjunction with the B20 Summit in Bali, the official G20 interaction platform with the global business community.
With millions of people globally being impacted by the global energy crisis, the G20 Summit in Bali is taking place against this backdrop. All G20 participants and global energy companies have vowed to contribute to the solution. Indonesia’s plan to attain net zero emissions by 2060 depends on the development of clean ammonia and hydrogen, and it is projected that the country will play a significant role in Asia’s green hydrogen economy.
Joint solutions
A pre-feasibility study to assess the likelihood of cooperation in regard to the development of a clean ammonia and hydrogen value chain is included in the Memorandum of Understanding. It might entail carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) at existing Pertamina Group facilities and other potential sites that have been mutually agreed upon. The study will look at the viability of investments for clean ammonia and hydrogen in Indonesia and jointly design commercialization solutions, including but not limited to corporate organization and business frameworks. The study will likely take place over the next two years, and depending on the results, it might be expanded upon.
