Spain – The European Commission has provided a €220 million grant to help Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios produce renewable hydrogen in compliance with EU State Aid standards.
The action supports the goals of the EU Hydrogen Strategy and European Green Deal by lowering dependency on Russian fossil fuels and driving the green transition in accordance with the REPowerEU Plan. The choice was made following the approval in July and September of two Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI, “Hy2Tech” and “Hy2Use”) in the hydrogen value chain.
Open call
The two IPCEIs that were approved were the result of Spain selecting Cobra’s project from an open call to be a component of an IPCEI on hydrogen technology and systems. However, given its characteristics and objectives, it was better suited for review in accordance with the Guidelines on State Aid for Climate, Environmental Protection, and Energy 2022.
