United States – Large-scale low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia projects in North America are being developed by Tallgrass and Norwegian energy giant Equinor.

In order to allow widespread decarbonization, the partners will evaluate the production and market possibilities for hydrogen and ammonia, as well as the accompanying distribution infrastructure.

Initial co-development activities between Tallgrass and Equinor include front-end engineering and design (FEED) study funded by both parties. The research will center on industrial-scale hydrogen generation that includes the collection of at least 95% of the CO2 for permanent sequestration and the utilization of ammonia for efficient transportation and storage. Tallgrass and Equinor are assessing numerous American energy hubs as part of the project.

Clean energy clusters

The importance of a full-scale hydrogen economy in providing communities with clean and reliable energy has been highlighted by recent policy changes, which further confirm the United States’ commitment to decarbonized energy projects. In line with their shared dedication, Equinor and Tallgrass will collaborate to further the integration of low- or zero-carbon hydrogen and ammonia into regional clean energy clusters, all the while considering emissions across the entire value chain and making efforts to conserve resources.
