Germany – The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) has chosen Tree Energy Solutions (TES), E.ON, and ENGIE to build and implement Germany’s fifth Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU).

The fifth FSRU in Germany will have an annual importing capacity of around 5bcm and is scheduled to commence operations at the start of the heating period in 2023.
The BMWK has contracted ENGIE to charter the FSRU for a portion of its LNG needs, and ENGIE and TES will be jointly responsible for the FSRU’s design, construction, and operation.

In Wilhelmshaven, where TES already owns 145 hectares of land and has been developing the hydrogen terminal since 2019, Excelerate Energy will deliver the five-year chartered FSRU, following negotiations led by Engie. TES plans to begin large-scale imports of hydrogen by 2025.

Green hydrogen

Wilhelmshaven will soon be home to Europe’s largest Green Energy Hub, built by TES and featuring the company’s proprietary concept for transforming abundant solar and wind energy electrons into clean, cheap natural gas. The green hydrogen terminal at Wilhelmshaven will act as a catalyst for a circular carbon economy and the main entry point for clean, safe, inexpensive, and abundant sustainable energy in Europe. TES’s upstream operations will produce sustainable LNG using green hydrogen and circular CO2, which will then be imported by TES.

In order to facilitate decarbonization and genuine net zero energy supply, the TES port will be equipped with six ship berths, two million cubic meters of onshore storage in ten on-site tanks, and direct access to natural gas, hydrogen, and CO2 pipeline networks.
