France – Previously owning 40% of H2V Normandy, Air Liquide has expanded its investment to 100%.
To produce renewable hydrogen in France, a new firm, Air Liquide Normand’Hy, plans to develop a large-scale electrolyzer with a power capacity of at least 200 megawatts (MW). This strategic investment will help the Normandy industrial basin build a low-carbon hydrogen environment.
For industrial and heavy transportation use, the Air Liquide Normand’Hy PEM electrolyzer project, located in Port-industrial Jérôme’s zone, would produce sustainable hydrogen using a proton-exchange membrane (PEM). When completed in 2025, this project will prevent the emission of over 250,000 metric tons of CO2 per year.
With the addition of an electrolyzer in Normandy, Air Liquide will help create the world’s first low-carbon hydrogen network.. As part of the decarbonization ecosystem Air Liquide is establishing in Normandy’s Seine Valley alongside other important industrial actors, the Air Liquide Normand’Hy initiative is a cornerstone.
The environmental permit public inquiry conducted by Air Liquide Normand’Hy just ended. As a result, it has been pre-notified to the EU by French authorities under the IPCEI H2 (Important Project of Common European Interest) call for projects, and has qualified for the second round of the Innovation Fund 2020 call for the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). These European, French, and regional program funds are crucial for the project’s implementation.
