Through the Green Shipping Program, HeidelbergCement and Felleskjopet announced a tender to supply green hydrogen for a zero-emission bulkship.
The ship, which will be the world’s first hydrogen-powered freight ship, will travel from Eastern Norway to Western Norway utilizing emission-free green hydrogen and rotor sails.
Companies collaboration
Among more than ten vendors, Statkraft and Skagerak Energi secured the contract for green hydrogen distribution. Statkraft and Skagerak Energi will collaborate with the Green Shipping Programme/DNV, HeidelbergCement, Felleskjopet, and the shipping business Ulvan/Norwegian Ship Design to develop the concept and select a site for the facility. The goal is to be ready for an investment decision by the summer of 2022, with deliveries beginning in late 2023.
