United Kingdom – A HyNet North West and InterGen have partnered to develop a low carbon power station at Rocksavage Power in Liverpool City Region.
The partnership could reduce the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the power station in Runcorn by over 150,000 tonnes each year, the equivalent of taking 60,000 cars off the road every year. The plans are part of an ever-increasing list of benefits to the region from HyNet North West.
Clean growth to secure jobs
HyNet North West is situated in one of the major industrial zones in the UK and helps to support the highest number of manufacturing jobs in the country. By as early as 2025, HyNet North West will start phasing out fossil fuels for power generation, industries, heating homes, and transportation, and replace them with clean hydrogen. Also, the initiative will trap and lock up present atmospheric carbon emissions.
100% net zero power production
InterGen has run and owned the gas-fired Rocksavage facility for approximately 25 years. By 2028, Rocksavage expects to have generated enough hydrogen through HyNet to develop a 100% net zero power station utilizing Gas Turbine technology. Liverpool City Region’s goal of zero carbon by 2040 will be supported by the initiative, which will help speed up the UK’s transition to net zero by 2050.
