Norway/France – ENGIE and Equinor have confirmed their collaboration to develop collaborative low-carbon hydrogen operations. The partners will explore the production and demand potential of hydrogen from natural gas by trapping and storing CO2 permanently offshore.
ENGIE and Equinor have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the production of low-carbon hydrogen value chains in Belgium, the Netherlands and France. In the coming months, ENGIE and Equinor will begin consultations with prospective clients to review the proposal, as well as with stakeholders and relevant authorities.
CO2 reduction
Both parties agree that it is necessary to build low-carbon and sustainable hydrogen projects on a scale in order to enable industrial customers to dramatically reduce CO2 emissions by 2030. This production of low carbon and renewable hydrogen would accelerate the building of new hydrogen facilities and the re-use of existing natural gas infrastructure, paving the way for a net zero in 2050.
