The Netherlands – TenneT, one of the prominent grid operators, has submitted its draft investment plans for the ‘Onshore Grid’ and the ‘Offshore Grid’ to the regulator ACM.
These plans, spanning the next two years, lay the groundwork for a major renovation of the electricity grid to accommodate the demands of the ongoing energy transition.
Published every two years, these investment plans serve as a roadmap, outlining the necessary investments for the next decade. TenneT’s recently revealed plans shed light on approximately 700 major infrastructure projects scheduled over the next ten years. These projects encompass grid expansions, replacement investments, new customer connections, the integration of offshore wind farms, and extensive reconstruction efforts. Among the highlights, TenneT aims to develop five larger new power highways (380kV) and modernize 140 high-voltage stations.
Engaging with stakeholders
During the consultation phase in November, TenneT received 49 responses, which have been carefully incorporated into the investment plans. Stakeholders raised concerns about project progress, delivery timelines, and prioritization. In response, TenneT emphasizes maintaining an open dialogue with various stakeholders and fostering continuous communication. Initiatives like the National Sustainable Industry Program (NPVI) and the regional Energy Boards, established in 2023, exemplify TenneT’s commitment to engaging with diverse stakeholders.
The draft investment plans showcase TenneT’s commitment to not only addressing the challenges posed by the energy transition but also revolutionizing the electricity grid to meet the demands of tomorrow’s energy landscape.
