Denmark – Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has unveiled Copenhagen Energy Islands, a visionary initiative set to reshape the global energy landscape.

Leveraging CIP’s profound expertise in offshore wind, this independent company is spearheading the development of approximately 10 energy island projects across the North Sea, Baltic Sea, and South-East Asia.

These energy islands, expansive offshore energy hubs, amalgamate proven technologies at an unprecedented scale. This innovative approach facilitates a cost-efficient deployment and integration of offshore wind, addressing the pressing need for substantial scaling in the renewable energy sector.

Transformative synergies

At the core of the energy islands concept lies a multifaceted approach driving transformative change. The key value drivers include a remarkable reduction in power transmission costs, large-scale offshore green hydrogen production, and the strategic interplay between power and hydrogen generation. By harnessing synergies between established technologies, Copenhagen Energy Islands aims to propel the global renewable energy agenda forward.

Copenhagen Energy Islands operates as an independent entity, with CIP holding a majority stake. The founding group features a consortium of major investors with a robust track record in renewable energy infrastructure. Notable contributors include PensionDanmark, PFA, SEB, and Andel, representing a diverse mix of Nordic, European, and North American investors.

Situated in Copenhagen, Copenhagen Energy Islands boasts a team of industry professionals equipped with extensive experience in renewables, infrastructure, and finance.
