Norway – In order to provide its Rafnes and Bamble plants in Norway with 100% green energy, Ineos Olefins & Polymer Europe has inked a renewable power deal with Skagerak Energitjenester.
All of Ineos’ assets in the area are now supplied with 100% green power produced through hydropower generation thanks to this and the previously publicized Ineos Inovyn transaction in Norway.
Ethylene from the Rafnes cracker is used in many different processes, including the manufacturing of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) at the nearby Bamble facility. These LDPE grades are employed in the manufacture of necessary goods like beverage cartons, medicine bottles, and food packaging seals. Ineos may minimize the carbon footprint of a standard LDPE grade by up to 30% by using renewable energy.
CO2 emissions
As part of its strategy to lower greenhouse gas emissions, Ineos O&P Europe has just reached an agreement on another renewable power arrangement. A new ethane cracker being built by Ineos for beginning in 2026 will cost €4 billion and have CO2 emissions that are less than 50% of those of any other European cracker.
