The Netherlands – In Borssele, the Dutch government proposes to build two new nuclear power facilities. The government would financially support the development of the power stations, which must be operational by 2035 at the latest.
The initial steps will be funded with five billion euros. The amount that the federal government will ultimately contribute has not yet been disclosed by the administration. The government wants to choose two ‘generation III+ reactors,’ as they are referred as. As a result, starting in 2035, nuclear energy should supply 11 to 15 percent of all electricity.
Carbon neutral
Nuclear energy is produced without releasing any CO2, but building a power plant is expensive and time-consuming. As a result, the cabinet should consider using this strategy, especially in the long run.
According to its own objectives, the Netherlands must be carbon neutral by 2050. To do this, CO2 emissions from the process of making power might be stopped. The House of Representatives also approved a plan to carry out the stated strategy to hasten nuclear power plant construction.
