United Kingdom – The Port of Nigg’s new East Quay, which is 225 meters long and 50 meters wide and increases the deep water quayside capacity to over 1,200 meters, is finished.

The Port of Nigg will be able to service numerous large-scale energy sector projects at once thanks to the opening of the quay, which is expected to be a game changer. Additionally, it guarantees that the port facility has the necessary infrastructure in place to meet demand for potential future growth in the floating offshore wind sector.

Port facility for energy

The Port of Nigg, already Scotland’s most significant port facility for the energy sector, is renowned for its top-notch multi-sector capability and provides distinctive turnkey solutions to clients in the global energy sector. The port has some of the biggest assembly and construction facilities in all of Europe, along with a sizable dry dock, wide laydown areas with high ground bearing capacity, and quaysides that extend into deep water. The port is quickly evolving into the primary Scottish port for supporting the renewables industry and Scotland’s efforts towards a NET Zero economy due to these qualities, as well as their unmatched proven track record and skilled multi-disciplined workforce.

The Scottish Government and Highlands & Islands Enterprise (HIE) have supported the multimillion-pound investment in the East Quay.

In the midst of the pandemic, in April 2021, marine construction work for the East Quay began. Construction company Farrans Construction completed the quay on schedule and within budget. The quay will serve as the Port of Nigg’s primary quayside for shipping activities while also allowing for flexibility in case they need to take the dock dry for a significant project.
